am 21. Juni 2016 erscheint eine neue Werksmonographie des interdisziplinären Designbüros 3deluxe: „Noor
Island - Realms of Imagination“.
Das deutsche Gestalterkollektiv hat ein kleines, brachliegendes Eiland inmitten der Hauptstadt des Emirats
Sharjah in einen transmedial inszenierten Landschaftspark mit einem Ensemble aus Pavillons, Gebäuden und
Objekten transformiert. Das Ergebnis ist ein faszinierender, neuer Typus öffentlichen Stadtraums, der für die
Einwohner der an Dubai angrenzenden, globalisierten Megacity eine moderne innerstädtische Oase bietet.
Das bei Frame Publishers erscheinende Buch ist reich bebildert, aufwändig gestaltet und enthält Texte von
renommierten Gastautoren.
„Noor Island - Realms of Imagination“ unterscheidet sich auf den ersten Blick von klassischen
Architekturbüchern und bereitet das dargestellte Projekt nicht dokumentarisch, sondern rein subjektiv auf.
Auch in der Gestaltung von Noor Island gingen 3deluxe sehr intuitiv vor und räumten assoziativen und
emotionalen Aspekten des Gestaltens viel Raum ein. Im Vordergrund stand für sie, einen Beitrag zur urbanen
Lebensqualität mitten in Sharjah zu leisten.
Das markanteste Gebäude auf Noor Island ist der Butterfly Pavilion, dessen ornamentales goldenes
Schattendach die Insel prägt. Zahlreiche weitere Installationen, Licht und Medienobjekte und
außergewöhnliche Pflanzen verbinden sich auf Noor Island zu einer ganzheitlichen, multisensorischen
Erfahrung und bieten Besuchern zahlreiche Möglichkeiten der kontemplativen Freizeitgestaltung.

On 21 June 2016 interdisciplinary design office 3deluxe are publishing a new project monograph: „Noor
Island - Realms of Imagination“.
The German design collective have transformed a small fallow island in the middle of the Emirate of Sharjah
into a transmedia landscape park complete with an ensemble of pavilions, buildings and objects. The result is
a fascinating new type of urban public space that provides residents of the adjacent globalized metropolis
with a modern inner-city oasis.
The volume published by Frame Publishers is generously illustrated, elaborately designed and features essays
by renowned guest authors.
„Noor Island - Realms of Imagination“ varies significantly from traditional architecture books and presents the
project in a purely subjective rather than a documentary style. When designing Noor Island, too, 3deluxe
proceeded very intuitively and gave precedence to associative and emotional aspects of design. Their main
objective was to contribute to the urban quality of living in the centre of Sharjah.
The most striking building on Noor Island is the high-profile Butterfly Pavilion, whose ornamental shading
roof characterizes the island. Many other installations, light and media objects as well as extraordinary plants
on Noor Island blend into a holistic, multisensory experience and offer visitors numerous opportunities for
contemplation and recreation.
